5 sobriety checkpoints planned for tonight

by Sue Leighton posted Aug 22 2014 2:03PM

Two more sobriety checkpoints have been announced for tonight. That makes five in central Ohio — one in Columbus, one in Licking County, two in Delaware County and one in Logan County.

Columbus police and the Franklin County DUI Task Force will operate a checkpoint at 4505 Refugee Rd., east of Hamilton Road and Citizens Place on the Far East Side, from 9 p.m. until about 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Additional officers will patrol the area, according to a release from Columbus police. Anyone who is arrested for impaired driving and refuses a chemical test will be required to submit a blood sample under a Franklin County Municipal Court order, the release said.

The Licking County checkpoint will run from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Saturday on Rt. 79. An exact location was not released by the State Highway Patrol.

In Delaware County, the patrol and the sheriff's office will operate the first checkpoint from 9 to 11 p.m. on Sawmill Parkway and the second from midnight to 2 a.m. Saturday on Rt. 23, according to a release from the patrol. Exact locations were not given.

The Logan County checkpoint will run from 8 p.m. to midnight on Rt. 366 west of Township Road 94. It will be conducted by the State Highway Patrol, the Logan County sheriff’s office and local police.

checkpoint blues
it's not a holiday why do we need a check. Why does it seem like every two weeks is another check. Checkpoint checkpoint for crying out loud at some point this is just turning into a big police state and we need to stop the harassment.this is America and we deserve to be treated better by the people we pay to protect us

Drunk driving dummy
Every two weeks and your not happy?? I'm mad because it doesn't happen more often like two three nights a week! If your not doing anything wrong then it takes no time and could save someone's life including yours! And I don't think they should tell you where they are at I think they should just pop up. These save life's and get dumb asses that like to drink and drive the hell of the road.. I say good job and do it more often get these people out of they're cars if they can't be grown enough or smart enough to have a dd with them when they want to get drunk.. This Is America and here we have laws you have to follow laws that save innocent people's life's don't like get on a plan and leave.

drunk driving needs to be stopped
I think it is a great idea I mean come on these people that are out and about driving while intoxicated put us all in danger I bet people's opinions would be different if one of their loved ones was harmed or worse yet killed by a drunk driver I agree they should do more

Ok for cops and their families to drink and drive
Too bad there are no cops who can pull over the cop who can drink and drive. They have a license to do it when others may have a couple beers and have a license plate light out and get pulled over and ruin their life. You know this is true.

Call someone who cares
For those of you who are whining, just shut it! If you think your rights are being violated by these checkpoints then you are stupid. You are breaking the law every time you get in the drivers seat after you drink. You should consider yourself lucky to have the heads up on where and when the check points will be. So when you get pulled over and arrested make sure that your one phone call is to someone who cares.

another
I wished they'd start arresting people texting and driving. I'm sick of being stuck behind someone doing 45 miles an hour who's swerving all over the road, so you can't pass them.

No time?
Those who think the checkpoints are a good thing and take no time from the innocent have apparently never been stopped by one. I don't go to bars and rarely drink, but the last time I was stopped it took almost 15 minutes before I could get away. I was on my way from one appointment to another, and was late to the second. That checkpoint stopped over 800 people and caught two over the legal limit. A better use of these officers might be to have them drive around and pull over people that seem to be having issues controlling their vehicles. That way, they could get drug users, alcohol users, and texters, along with anyone else actually demonstrating a just cause for being pulled over.
